Marsh Urges Cobb to Step Up to the Plate for District 62 Voters

Shelbyville, TN - District 62 State House candidate Pat Marsh today responded to Democrat Candidate Ty Cobb’s assertion that there have been negotiations regarding town hall debates in the district.
“It seems to me that Democrats don’t want Ty Cobb to debate,” stated Marsh. “The bottom line is, while I appreciate input from a variety of people, no one negotiates for our campaign except our campaign. If Ty Cobb doesn’t want to have an open and honest discussion on all the important issues facing District 62 and the state, I’m sure the voters will take that into account. I plan to continue touring the District so that I can listen to constituents’ concerns on every issue and answer questions on how I will fight to stop the growth of government, lower taxes, and strengthen our economy by fueling job creation.”
On August 20, Pat Marsh squared off against other primary candidates, including Chris Brown, at a town hall meeting at Central High School. Ty Cobb was the only District 62 candidate invited, but not in attendance. Following that debate, Pat Marsh wrote to Ty Cobb and asked him to participate in a series of town hall forums. Cobb turned down the request. In addition, Cobb’s campaign manager told the Shelbyville Times-Gazette that Cobb would not have time for a town hall meeting.
Following is an excerpt from a September 10 report in the Shelbyville Times-Gazette in which Cobb’s campaign manager, Rolland Hughes, said Mr. Cobb doesn’t have time for debate:
Prior to the release of Marsh's press release, the Times-Gazette had begun contacting the campaigns about their willingness to participate in a debate. A call last week to Cobb was returned by his campaign manager, Rolland Hughes, who told the Times-Gazette last week that Cobb's schedule would not permit him to participate in any debates.
"We're not going to have the time," said Hughes.
