Marsh Says His Experience Will Help Bring New Jobs to Area

SHELBYVILLE, TN – State House District 62 candidate, Pat Marsh issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor announced that the nation’s unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent.  This report comes after the Tennessee Department of Labor announced in mid-September that the state’s unemployment rate reached a staggering 10.8 percent.  That same report listed unemployment rates for Bedford county at 12.5 percent, Rutherford county at 10.1 percent and Lincoln county at 7.2 percent.

“This is yet another concerning report from the Department of Labor that reinforces the need for strong leadership in Nashville,” stated Marsh.  “I’ve been a small businessman most of my life and I plan to use that experience to strengthen our economy by supporting the growth of existing business and attracting new companies to our area.”

Marsh began his career in the trucking industry as an employee at a small company with six tractors and twelve trailers. He worked his way up and eventually bought the company and grew it to 500 tractors and 1000 trailers, which employed over 1000 people. He sold the company and started another trucking company, Big G Express, with his brother Jack in 1995. Today, Big G Express has 350 tractors, 800 trailers and employs over 500 people.

“Tennesseans are doing everything they can to make ends meet during these tough economic times,” continued Marsh.  “They need leaders at the Capitol that will fight for lower taxes, less spending and pro-growth policies that will help fuel job creation across the state.  If elected, that’s exactly what I plan to do.”

Pat Marsh is a Lincoln County native and currently resides in Shelbyville with his wife Mary.  Marsh serves the community as a member and past President of the Rotary Club and is active in the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce, the Tennessee Trucking Association and American Trucking Association. He also sits on the Board of the National Walking Horse Celebration.
