Marsh: “We’re in the Ninth Inning & Ty Cobb Just Struck Out”
SHELBYVILLE, TN – State House District 62 candidate, Pat Marsh again answered questions directly from voters at a town hall meeting earlier this evening hosted by The Webb School Teenage Democrats and Teenage Republicans. The Webb School invited all three candidates to the event, but Democrat candidate Ty Cobb chose not to attend making this the third opportunity to square off with other candidates that he has missed.
“I want to thank The Webb School for hosting this town hall,” said Marsh. “It is very exciting to see young people so involved in government and taking an active interest this race. The students and faculty that coordinated this event did a remarkable job and I am honored to have been invited.”
Pat Marsh discussed a number of issues and answered questions from the audience that included some XXX people. Democrat candidate Ty Cobb was noticeably absent making this third town hall forum he has chosen not to participate in.
“We are less than a week out from the general election and I can’t see how voters would be very enthused about a candidate that has just missed his third job interview,” stated Marsh. “It seems to me we’re in the ninth inning and Ty Cobb just struck out with voters.”
Following is a timeline that shows Cobb’s unwillingness to join other candidates in front of District 62 constituents:
August 20th – Pat Marsh squared off against other primary candidates, including Chris Brown, at a town hall meeting at Central High School. Ty Cobb was the only candidate invited and not in attendance.
September 8th – Marsh wrote to Cobb requesting his participation in a series of town hall forums. Cobb turned down the request.
September 10th – Cobb’s campaign manager responded to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette regarding Cobb’s participation in town hall debates with “we’re not going to have the time.”
September 14th – Marsh wrote to Brown urging all three candidates to participate in a town hall meeting.
September 15th – While Ty Cobb’s “State House negotiators” tried to set debate parameters, Marsh responded to a letter from Ty Cobb and stated that only he and his campaign negotiate debate terms.
September 21st – Marsh attended a town hall debate held by candidate Chris Brown. Ty Cobb was invited, but did not attend.
October 5th – A column by Knoxville News Sentinel Nashville Bureau Chief Tom Humphrey says, “Cobb has declined debate opportunities, in part, because of a belief the Republicans would turn the occasion into an Obama-bashing affair, says House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Turner, field commander for the Cobb corps.”
October 6th – Pat Marsh answered voters’ questions at a town hall meeting hosted by students of The Webb School. Ty Cobb was invited, but did not attend.
Pat Marsh is a Lincoln County native and currently resides in Shelbyville with his wife Mary.
